Hispanic Workforce Readiness, Employment and Literacy Promotion Initiative The Hispanic Directors Association of New Jersey (HDANJ) has created a partnership with the Department of Labor and Workforce Development (LWD) to fully integrate the network of HDANJ community-based organizations and agencies in order to connect their constituency and to expand the participation of Hispanics in the One-Stop Career System. Implementing steps toward the accomplishment of this goal will assure that Hispanics in the workforce or entering the workforce receive the services and educational programs that will improve their employment and retention in the workplace. Since last year, HDANJ, through twelve of its 30-member agencies across the state, has worked to encourage Latinos to take part in the Department of Labor’s One-Stop Career Centers, which offer a wide variety of training and employment opportunities. HDANJ Awarded Contract to Increase Latino Involvement in State Labor Training Program For Immediate Release: January 8, 2007 The Hispanic Directors Association of New Jersey today announced the award of a $147,399 one-year contract to work with the State Department of Labor and Workforce Development to increase Latino involvement in New Jersey job training programs, English language and literacy programs and civics courses. The Middlesex County Construction Careers Program (MCCTTP) The goal of the Middlesex County Construction Trades Training program grant is to graduate 30 participants from a pre-apprenticeship training program, and assist them with placement in union construction apprenticeships or quality construction-related employment. The union trades seek quality individuals every year to enter into their apprenticeship programs. The program graduates will provide a highly qualified pool of potential apprentices from which the union trades can have confidence drawing from. Hispanic Directors Association of New Jersey Awarded Grant to Recruit Women and Minorities to Construction Trades For immediate release: May 23, 2008 A program to recruit women and minorities into the construction trade unions is the focus of a $300,000 grant recently awarded to the Hispanic Directors Association of New Jersey by the New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Read more… In collaboration with several partners, we are actively seeking candidates to participate in the program. The criteria for candidates include: -Reside within the New Brunswick or Perth Amboy Abbott Districts -Be at least 20 years of age at the time of enrollment -Possess a valid driver’s license or be able to obtain one prior to graduation from the CTTP-WM program -Possess a high school diploma or GED -Remain drug free throughout the entire program and submit to drug testing -Score a minimum 7th grade level on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) -Demonstrate a legitimate interest in pursuing a career in the building and construction trades HDANJ is partnering with the Puerto Rican Action Board in New Brunswick and the Puerto Rican Association for Human Development for the Middlesex County Construction Trades Training Program.
