Knowledge is power.
Share yours with a child, teach preschool.
Education is the greatest tool for success. When a child receives proper education, the possibilities for their life are endless. The formative years of preschool help to develop the cognitive, developmental and educational abilities necessary for academic success and for a better future. The influence of a good teacher is far more long lasting than the time the child spends in the classroom. More than the duration of the school year.
You could make a difference!
If you are a dedicated individual who is looking to make a mark, consider sharing your days,
heart and knowledge with New Jersey's children.
Applying is easy!
If you are interested in joining this effort to better the prospects for New Jersey's children,
there is an excellent career path available to you!
New Jersey has a Provisional Teacher Program that offers two routes for becoming a
certified preschool teacher. If you are willing to learn age appropriate teaching
techniques and meet the following requirements, you are ready to become a
New Jersey preschool teacher!
Traditional Route
Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate academic major including early education
teacher preparation and at least one year of teaching experience.
Alternate Route
Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate academic major and a commitment to
fulfilling further requirements.
Step 1 Apply for a Certificate of Eligibility. This requires a bachelor's degree or equivalency for foreign studies and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.75.
Step 2 Once you are approved for a certificate of eligibility, you may seek employment as
a preschool teacher.
Step 3 After you are hired as a preschool teacher, you will then be asked to apply for a
provisional license. You will also be required to complete a three phase training program
required of all alternate route candidates.
