Born in Sea Isle City, Cape May County, New Jersey, and a graduate of Millville Senior High School class of 1980. In November of 1980 he joined the United States Army. Under the direction of the Company Commander he was assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion as the Company Administrative Specialist in Wildflecken, Germany. After serving two years in Germany he was assigned to the 2nd Armored Division in Fort Hood Texas as a Senior Administrative Specialist in charge of assigning military personnel to overseas duty. In November 1992, after serving three years in the United States Army, David received his honorable discharge. David’s commitment to his country did not end there; he served eight years in the New Jersey Army National Guard.
David’s vast experience working for the Vineland Youth Transitional Group Home, Cape May Youth Advocate Program, the Atlantic Mental Health Crisis Companion, and the Puerto Rican Action Committee gave him the opportunity to forge ahead. In August of 1993 he was promoted to Associate Director, responsible for the Puerto Rican Action Committee’s new Cape May County Division office located in Woodbine, New Jersey. After four successful years under his direction, the Board of Directors appointed him as the agency’s Acting Director of all operations. On July 1, 1998 he was named Executive Director.
David’s commitment and leadership capabilities have placed him on several boards and committees. He has represented the Hispanic Community on the following boards and committees: Cape May County Human Services Advisory Council, Cape Counseling Services Board of Directors, Cape May County Prevention Board, Cape May County Human Relations Commission, Inter Agency Council of Salem County, and the Executive Committee of the Hispanic Directors Association of New Jersey. In November of 2003 David was elected to serve on the Woodbine Borough Council and is currently serving his second term upon a successful re-election in 2006. David is also a graduate of the South Jersey Regional Leadership Institute Rutgers University class of 2002. In 2006 David completed his certification as an elected official from Rutgers University – Center for Government Services. In April, 2007 Gov. Jon Corzine appointed David to the NJ Task Force on Child Abuse and Neglect.
David is an active member of St. Casmir’s Roman Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus. David is married to Ruby and they have a 9 year old daughter, Thalia, and 2 year old son David Anthony Rodriguez.
