The Hispanic Directors Association of New Jersey (HDANJ) came into existence in 1990 as a means of providing support to the various Executive Directors of Latino nonprofit agencies connected at the time through the Department of Community Affairs. In 1998, with the help of the Center for Hispanic Policy, Research, and Development, HDANJ expanded the breath of its services and support systems to its members. HDANJ is a founding member of the Latino Leadership Alliance that brings together over 100 Latino organizations to empower Latinos. Today, we are comprised of 29 Latino nonprofits across the state of New Jersey. Collectively, our members serve more than 700,000 low-income mostly Latino families annually, providing an array of critical services. While there are other non-profits, educational institutions, and government agencies providing services to the Latino population, HDANJ is the only Latino-led non-profit Association in New Jersey with a mission targeted on the self sufficiency of the Latino population as well as the community at large. With members agencies located from Bergen to Cape May County and a 15 year track record of translating funding into effective services, the HDANJ has emerged as the trusted source of information for Latino family needs in the State. Our Mission The mission of the HDANJ is to further the progress of New Jersey's Hispanic Community through cooperation among its members and collaboration with other organizations. This mission includes the following actions: • Study, research, analyze, and advocate for the welfare of the Hispanic community. • Foster the professional development of the staff and volunteers of member agencies. Vision The Hispanic Directors Association of New Jersey (HDANJ) will become the premier agency on issues affecting the Latino community. We envision a day when a unified Latino community will acquire resources & opportunities in order to ensure social, economic & educational equity.
